Gearing up to Go Home

In eleven short days, I will be leaving DC and returning to my favorite city, St. Louis!!!!!!

This picture was taken my first time in St. Louis, back in March, 2010.  To say I am excited would be an understatement.  All summer, I've been telling anyone who would listen (and many people who didn't want to listen) how awesome St. Louis is.  I cannot wait to go back, to see all my friends, to go to the Scholar Shop, to cook dinner with my roommates, to make crafts from Goodwill finds, to see how much my friends' children have grown, to get some Dr. Bronners soap.  And I might even be a little excited to get started with classes again.  But even though I am excited to go home, there are some things I will miss about DC.

For instance, I will not be able to be walking down the street, look up, and see the Capitol Building, or the White House, or some other national landmark.  Even though I've spent four summers here, it never quite sinks in that I am in such an important and iconic city.  I also will miss the wonderful friends I have made this summer, and the old friends I have been able to reconnect with (and yes, I just ended a sentence with a preposition, but this is a blog, so deal with it).  I will miss the church I have been attending, Capitol Hill Baptist Church.  I have been blown away by the humility at this church.  I feel blessed to have been able to attend every week, to hear the word faithfully preached, to be surrounded by some many men and women who possess such wisdom and a desire to grow in their faith.  I will be returning to my beloved Journey in St. Louis, and am excited to reconnect there and to bring back some of what I have learned this summer.

As I am getting more and more excited to return home, and realizing more and more what I am going to be leaving behind, I have been super busy, so have not been able to really thing about it much.  In the past week, I have had two different friends stay with me at my house.  Tomorrow morning, I leave for a weekend trip with my family.  Next week, I will be going to the zoo with my sister, sister-in-law, and nephews.  Then, another friend will be visiting.  I am super excited for all of these things, but most excited to be going home soon :-D
